Competence at The Bookkeeping Center

Dear Friends,

This month, The Bookkeeping Center (TBKC) wishes to highlight another one of its core values: Competence. When we set about identifying our values, competence was an obvious addition. Not only do we strive to produce competent bookkeepers, we also endeavor to be a proficient workforce development organization.

Competence is defined as the possession of required skills, qualifications, knowledge, or capacity. The specialized financial training that we offer equips our participants with the required skills and knowledge in the field of bookkeeping & accounting.

Participants get hands-on experience in a controlled learning environment.

In the financial industry, an individual’s level of competency is key to finding and retaining employment. A bookkeeper with multiple competencies has more value to the organization that employs him or her. We help individuals develop multiple competencies in the accounting fundamentals as well as several computerized software programs.

TBKC also gives participants hands-on, practical experience in a controlled learning environment. This means that our participants graduate with a higher level of competency compared to other training programs. Ultimately, through our comprehensive curriculum, TBKC enhances the expectations of a quality bookkeeper.

Just as we elevate the baseline knowledge of a quality bookkeeper, we are working hard to develop multiple organizational competencies. Every day, we advance our expertise in subject areas such as support services, volunteerism, governance, and partnerships:

  • In collaboration with Tax Managers at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, we are hosting our first ‘Networking Seminar’ for our current students and alumni!
  • We are interviewing candidates for our newly created volunteer coordinator position!
  • We recently welcomed Rene E. Pena, Auditor at RBSM LLP, as TBKC’s first new board member since our founding!
  • We are in the process of becoming an official partner with the Upper Manhattan Workforce1 Center!

If you received this letter, you are part of our community. Please contact us if you think that you can enhance our competencies in any way. We welcome your insights and opinions.

Sincerely,

Thomas P. Graham IV
Executive Director
The Bookkeeping Center
